The rug lay atop the grass, flowing over the contours of the earth, accentuating her perfect imperfections as life hummed below the surface. A man and woman were draped over it, wrapped around each other, enveloped in their mutual affection.

Her head rested lightly on his chest, her eyes lost in the glistening water that flowed beneath the sun’s golden light. The stream whispered to them as they lay, the ripples highlighting the warm stones as they caressed their path around them.

The cliff across the water stretched towards the clear blue sky, and the shrubs weaved their way between the tiny silver waterfalls that scattered the face. They listened to the trees at the summit, whose vivid leaves tempted them further upwards as they danced in the light, warm breeze.

A worn walkway meandered through the reeds and moss, following the line of the stream. It appeared to stretch on forever as her eyes walked the path slowly, savouring the scent of the fresh water that drifted around her.

The birds swept through the air, resting on the delicate willow branches that overhung the water’s edge. They sang to the lovers as they basked in the warm glow of the sun’s rays, the melody soaring through to their hearts like so many before them.

Nothing could be more perfect, more sensuous, or truer than this one moment in time. For two lovers, it was the last place on earth. The only place. And it was all theirs.
