She drove on for years
from town to town
in her old battered Ford
with her face in a frown
determined to find
and bring to book
the man who ran out
on Annie Brooke
for thirty odd years
she searched unending
she had a goal
her willpower unbending
until one day
she happened to find
A town called "Loss"
that suited her mind
in that town was a bar
ran by 'ol Jack Greene
a seedier place
has yet to be seen.
Now thirty years back
Jack and Annie were close
to tying the knot
it was Jack Annie chose
to be her main man
the one to provide
a life full of love
in Jack she had pride
but before they could wed
he had ran from the town
and taken his new love
and she wore the gown
of glowing white lace
to become his new bride
and Annie was left
to tend to her pride.
At first she'd accepted
and waited for the one
who would sweep her up
and then she'd become
a wife and a mother
it was all she knew
but it wasn't to be
and her bitterness grew
Jack was the one
and he'd went away
and married her friend
on that fateful day
and so she decided
to seek out and find
the man who ran out
and left her behind
she wanted revenge
she wanted her day
she wanted him dead
if she had her way
and so thirty years later
she drove up in her car
and entered 'ol Jacks
that seedy old bar
and ordered a drink
to steady her mind
suddenly scared
of what she might find
she pulled out her gun
and aimed at the man
who served her drink
and told him her plan
she said she would shoot
if he tried to warn
'ole Jack of his fate
and save him from harm
the barman asked why
she had waited so long
and urged her to leave
before Jack came along
he told her that Jack
was not the same guy
he had been in a crash
and had lost an eye
in time the door opened
and an old man came in
with a patch on his eye
and a lop sided grin
his smile quickly faded
when he saw Annie's gun
she shot him three times
and once more just for fun
and then she ran out
and drove off in her car
leaving blood and gore
on the floor of the bar
the barman leant over
the poor dead man
as into the bar
'ole Jack ran
what happened he asked
who shot poor old Brad
some mad woman
said the barman to his dad.
