Today the rains came.
Soft patter on the open window pane
Ventured to call -
Clouds opened, thunder roared, the sky
Seemed torn in two.
Tonight, the sky is quiet, forgiving;
After the storm, she takes a breath
While raindrops fall sedately from the roofs,
And dance swiftly into invisibility.
And somehow, I feel the shadows -
Gliding into silhouettes -
War and peace - just hours apart.
How the elements raged, cursing in full spate
Like an angry sea,
Come to reclaim its children,
Take them home from home.
Yet tonight brings its own serenity,
A smile of soft unplayed harmonies
Upon a smooth bejewelled sky
Bring down the curtain
On a patchwork day.
Across the street a seagull calls
To the shallow hum of traffic -
Somewhere the chimes of midnight sound.
